Another WLC for the books!

It Starts Here!

It’s been a few weeks since the 2014 World Leadership Congress wrapped up but the “HOBY Hangover” is likely still plaguing the ambassadors that were part of the 8 day leadership seminar.  For those in attendance, there are now lifelong bonds that tie these ambassadors to each other–  As they continue to grow and navigate the world around them, they will do so with 426 connections from 48 states plus 15 countries.  It’s an amazing tool for each of them.IMG_9897

The WLC is HOBY’s longest running program. The 2014 World Leadership Congress marked the 46 consecutive years of this international program.

Ambassadors participated in the largest Leadership for Service (L4S) project in HOBY history!

It has been a goal of the WLC Leadership Team to conduct a single L4S project, allowing all ambassadors and volunteers to serve side by side and this year that goal was met. With the generous financial support of Walmart, 525 WLC participating students and volunteers travelled to Chicago’s historic Humboldt Park and spent the morning conducting a massive park clean-up. Attracting the attention of several local media outlets:

WLC would not be possible without our generous sponsors, loyal staff and most importantly, the 107 selfless VOLUNTEERS that give their time and certainly, their energy to create a magical, life changing event year after year.  To all of them, a collective “THANK YOU”!

HOBY’s World Leadership Congress is designed to allow students to discover their own personal leadership potential while becoming responsible and responsive global citizens.

Participating students have the opportunity to engage with thought-leaders in a wide variety of fields. They also participate in hands-on leadership learning and activities in addition to service opportunities throughout the week. After the week long program, students leave inspired and motivated to articulate and accomplish their goals as well as make positive changes in their local and global community.

The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) has placed the WLC on its National Advisory List of Student Contests and Activities for 2013-2014.

HOBY strives to provide the WLC leadership development opportunity to as many students as possible. For information about becoming a sponsor of HOBY’s WLC, please call HOBY’s International Department at 818-851-3980.
