HOBY is celebrating outstanding leadership with our Albert Schweitzer Leadership Awards Gala in Dallas, Texas on November 6th at 6pm. Each year the Albert Schweitzer Leadership Awards recognizes leaders in diverse areas of human endeavor and supports fundraising efforts that sustain HOBY programs, which provide young people with leadership development opportunities throughout the world.
This year, the Gala will be held at the beautiful Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens in the Rosine Hall. We’re pleased to present Ryan Binkley, President, and CEO of Generational Equity Group with HOBY’s highest honor, the Albert Schweitzer Leadership Award. He and his wife, Ellie, are also the Founding and Lead Pastors of Create Church which they planted over five years ago. This is a multicultural Christian church with a mission to help people find and fulfill their created purpose in Christ. Whether it’s in business or in ministry, Ryan’s passion is to help inspire people to live out their lives as a legacy for the next generation.
This evening we’re also proud to award Milagros Muñoz with HOBY’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award. Milagros means miracles in Spanish, and to everyone that meets her, it’s a perfect fit. Despite struggles and disadvantages, Milagros went from just “another EnglishLanguage Learner student” to a powerful inspiration to students older and younger than her. After attending her HOBY Seminar, Milagros started a project to help English Language Learner students grow to their maximum potential in the Spring Independent School District. She’s led the way for those who hope to become more than what is expected.
Additionally, Milagros wanted to do something about the dropout rate related to teen pregnancy. Obstacles like childcare, financial strain and the need for time off often keep students who become young parents from graduating. So she started a “Baby Drive” in Spring ISD to provide teen parents with the tools necessary for early parenthood. She stays in touch with students who have to miss school for pregnancy-related reasons so they stay connected to their classmates and focused on graduating. Milagros also coordinates communication with their teachers brings the students she serves their assignments so they don’t fall behind and offers tutoring for those that need it. In the short time that Milagros has been running this program, has seen an increase in the number of teen parents who graduate from ISD. Milagros has and continues to be what we always need in our lives, a miracle.

HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of volunteers and alumni to a lifetime dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. We accomplish this through several youth leadership programs and this year, over 12,000 youth will participate in HOBY, adding to the 550,000 lives HOBY has touched over 60 years. Our programs are planned and run by local volunteers and use a HOBY developed curriculum based upon the Social Change Model of Leadership.
