HOBY will honor Honorable Joseph R. “Beau” Biden

THE HONORABLE JOSEPH R. “BEAU” BIDEN TO BE AWARDED HIGHEST HONOR BY Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership.

HOBY 2014 ASLA LA InviteThe Albert Schweitzer Leadership Award, the highest honor given by Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY), will be posthumously presented to the Honorable Joseph R. “Beau” Biden, the former Attorney General of Delaware, at the organization’s Albert Schweitzer Leadership Awards Gala on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at The Beverly Hilton.

“We admire the life and lasting legacy of service that Beau Biden dedicated to our country,” said Javier LaFianza HOBY CEO. “The inspirational way he lived his life, along with his leadership qualities and positive outlook on the world, serve as a model for HOBY ambassadors around the world.”

Biden has been described as “quite simply, the finest man any of us have ever know,” by his father, Vice President Joe Biden. The younger Biden began his life of service as an attorney with the US Attorney’s Office before being elected as the Attorney General of Delaware in 2007. Additionally, he served a Major in the Delaware Army National Guard. Biden served a tour of duty in Iraq and was awarded the Bronze Star. Biden died of brain cancer May 30, 2015.

The Albert Schweitzer Leadership Award is presented to individuals who have distinguished themselves through their service to mankind and who have contributed significantly through their leadership to the education and motivation of youth.

Previous recipients of the Albert Schweitzer Leadership Award include: former President George H.W. Bush; former Secretary of State and former U.S. Senator from New York Hillary Clinton; Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO of Southwest Airlines Garry Kelly; and Yahoo Global News Anchor, Katie Couric.
