“If you want to see your full potential and reach it, this is the place where it starts.” – 2013 WLC Ambassador
The power from within this organization, and only a few words, never ceases to amaze, especially when a 2013 WLC Ambassador inspired the foundation of the 2014 WLC. As WLC planning is in full swing, I am very excited to announce the official theme for the 2014 WLC – “It Starts Here”.
Hugh O’Brian spent nine days in the jungles of Africa with world humanitarian Dr. Albert Schweitzer. Dr. Schweitzer saw the need for leadership and the importance of young people thinking for themselves. As Hugh left to return to the United States, Dr. Schweitzer asked, “Hugh, what are you going to do with this?” It was Hugh’s starting point in providing service and positively impacting others’ lives.
Like Hugh’s trip to Africa, WLC is a starting point for the Ambassadors. Hugh gave the world HOBY. HOBY was Hugh’s answer. At WLC, our Ambassadors will have a similar experience. Inspired by Hugh’s actions, the Ambassadors will find their own answers to Dr. Schweitzer’s question.
Focusing on the ideals and principles of why Hugh founded HOBY, the Ambassadors will recognize and develop his/her leadership potential and work to implement his/her ideas into action. Ambassadors will be challenged to answer the question, “What are YOU going to do with this?”
And it starts here, at WLC.
The 2014 World Leadership Congress will be held at Loyola University-Chicago in Chicago, Illinois from July 19-26, 2014. For more information on the WLC, visit hoby.org/wlc.
