John Weinstein is one of 5 HOBY alumni receiving a 2017 Alumni Achievement Award at the Albert Schweitzer Leadership Awards Gala in New York City on May 31st, 2017. HOBY’s Alumni Achievement Award recognizes outstanding HOBY Alumni who have distinguished themselves as leaders in professional, social, and philanthropic endeavors, and have carried that leadership with dignity and respect.

Jon headshotJon embraced leadership and service roles throughout his life. His grandmother, a Russian immigrant, inspired Jon by her love for America and belief that people should give back to their country. Jon’s participation in HOBY opened his eyes to his potential and promise to make a difference in the world. This fueled Jon’s desire to serve, contributing to his decision to join the Army and solidified his passion for service.

Jon studied International Relations and National Security Policy, earning a BA from Boston University, MA from American University. After graduation from BU, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves. Soon after college, Jon married his high school sweetheart, Margaret. Jon and Margaret raised their two sons, Zach and Ben in Howard County, Maryland.

Jon has served in leadership positions for local and statewide community organizations, including HOBY. He has coached local youth sports, served on committees of his community association and synagogue, and has been an active parent in his sons’ schools. Jon is the co-founder of Line of Sight, a consulting firm focused on improving organizations’ performance. He has authored articles and two books, and has spoken on management and leadership across the US, Europe, and Africa.

In 2014, Jon brought his commitment to service to a new level when he was elected to represent Howard County, Maryland’s 1st District on the County Council. He was selected by his colleagues in December 2015 to serve as Chair.
